Labour is backing Barry Jones as a strong and experienced local voice to speak for the many.
Barry is a familiar face to the area; he has lived and worked in Hampshire for almost forty years, raising his family in our local schools and involving himself actively in community projects. Having worked with many employers here, large and small, he has a practical appreciation of the particular challenges that our resident businesses are facing in today’s skewed economy.
Barry’s extensive background in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mechanics), where he designed and implemented complex safety systems and other developments for the aviation industry. He has specialised for years at bringing skilled people together to find solutions to large-scale problems. During this time, he also operated as a trade union executive, fighting for fair pay and conditions for the colleagues in his sector.
Barry returned to education after his retirement and has just been awarded an MA in Railway Studies; he has a particular focus on public transport systems, and a keen understanding of the logistical hands-on work needed in order to keep a society working well.
